Hello again! We're back with our second installment of 5 Things, our weekly post of five things we love that have nothing to do with toys. We love toys and the toy store, but we love other things too. Things we think you'll love too.
1. Best Friend Dates
Getting together with your best friends is like a balm for the soul. And, something that all of us tend to not make time for. Life gets in the way and days feel rushed and we forget about heart to hearts and laughs with friends. We recommend making immediate plans for dinner along 23rd or 21st, followed by an ice cream cone at Salt & Straw or Alotto Gelato, with lots of chatting and laughter mixed in. Lady date. Do it.
It's hot out there. One news report actually called this weekend's forecast "hideous." No joke. So, to help keep us cool we are eating our weight in watermelon. It's so delicious. Cool, refreshing, light, and helps against that overheated, puffy feeling. Plus, there are so many ways to eat it - salads, sculpted to look like other things, frozen, cut in half and ate out of like a bowl. Seriously, so good.
3. David Attenborough Nature Documentaries
Lions, tigers and bears, oh my! We've been totally hooked on the Netflix collection of David Attenborough nature documentaries. Instant watch has 14 different films and they are all great. Trivia fact: David Attenborough is the younger brother of Richard Attenborough, the actor who played Mr. Hammond in Jurassic Park!
4. Save the Bees
We've noticed a few bees buzzing around, the guy above was in the butterfly garden at Good Sam Hospital, and we feel so happy to see them flitting from flower to flower. Bees can seem like a nuisance, but they are so important to our delicate eco-system and even small measures can help save them. We looked around the internet, and the best tips we found came from Winnie the Pooh. Scroll to the bottom of the linked article to see the list. Our favorite tip, "make some seed balls and throw them into the wild."
5. Hot Air Balloon Festival
Tigard is going to be full of hot air balloons this weekend! The balloons are definitely the main attraction, but there will also be craft & vendor booths, a car show, beer garden, live music and more. Get there early each day to see the balloons launch, and stay for the impressive Night Glow. Details at the event website, Festival of Balloons.
