Hello! In preparation for Saturday's event, we have another Richard Scarry book review for you. If you're free on Saturday between 11am and 1pm, be sure to check out our Events page for Richard Scarry Day details (note: the author will not be present, but characters from Northwest Children's Theater's Busytown will be!).
On with the book review!
Richard Scarry’s Cars and Trucks and Things That Go is one of my own family’s very favorites with many detailed pages of all kinds of transportation silliness. The drawings are whimsical and the writing is charming and funny! The Pig Family goes for a trip to the beach and has many stops and adventures along the way. Follow Officer Flossy as she drives after a terribly reckless driver on every page! Look for tiny Goldbug hiding out on each two page spread.
This is an activity both of my sons really enjoyed as part of bedtime reading. It was a great way to focus their attention after a busy play day. Sometimes we would just pick a portion of the book because there was so much to talk about. It really helps increase vocabulary, too. There is a crazy pile up on one page which involves a mustard truck, a whipped cream truck and some bananas. Warning: You might get an uncontrollable case of the giggles.
I haven’t found a pickle car in real life, but I keep looking! Ages 3 and up.
Have a great day and drive safe!
