WHERE Y’AT? WHERE Y’AT? Read the inspiring story of how Treme musician “Trombone Shorty became a famous trombone player! This book is rich with the sights and sounds of the historic Treme neighborhood in New Orleans, LA where he grew up. Inspired by the music all around him and his big brother James who played the trumpet, Andrews taught himself to play the trombone, even though he could barely carry it, earning him the nickname “Shorty”. He played his trombone everywhere, and was even called up to play onstage with Bo Diddley as a child.
Andrews is a Grammy nominated artist and his band Trombone Shorty & Orleans Ave have been featured on the HBO show Treme. He received the President’s Medal through Tulane University for his community service work through his foundation and music academy that provides music and business education and mentorship for New Orleans high school students who are musically gifted.
