On to the book review!
This riveting Newberry award-winning book is a little of everything; a bit coming of age and a big mystery with some big surprises. Sixth grader Miranda and her best friend Sal are growing up in New York City and both children have to deal with their share of hardships. The novel centers around an event that changed both of their lives: Sal gets punched by another kid for seemingly no reason, and shuts Miranda out of his life. Shortly after Miranda’s apartment key is stolen and she begins receiving a series of mysterious notes from a stranger that cause her to believe that only she can prevent a tragic death. It is up to the reader to unravel a larger mystery at the novel’s core. A great pick for fans of Madeline L’Engle’s ‘A Wrinkle in Time’! A page turner recommended for ages 8+.
Have a sparkling day!
